I must say that waking up at 4:30 am to drive to a sunrise wedding was a first for me. I walked down our driveway with my headlamp on my forehead while carrying my gear and a big cup of coffee and drove to the Bride’s hotel room. Robyn was the sweetest and kindest bride: She offered me food and coffee before I even started shooting. But we were on a tight schedule because we were trying to arrive at the Great Falls Park by Sunrise.
Great Falls is a must-see park near Washington D.C. and you can choose to see the Falls from the Maryland side or the Virginia side. Though the Maryland side offers a stroll along the C&O canal, It’s much easier and takes less effort to gaze at the falls from the Virginia side. If you do decide to go, make sure you bring your National Park Annual pass or it’s $20 to park.
There was still a lot of snow at the park and I managed to fall on a patch of ice while attempting to shoot the “First look” photos for this couple. I will forever feel sorry that I stole the spotlight and I became the center of attention while I was screaming a lot of profanity. Thankfully, the best man was an EMT and helped me back up and the Bride was attentive to my needs and made sure I was ok.
After finally getting back up and meeting the groom for the first time, I did my best to shoot the ceremony with one hand (and no pain killer).
The ceremony was lovely, the sunrise was magnificent, and the couple was playful. It was an incredible experience and I would be ecstatic if I could shoot another wedding there
